    Recent research has increased our understanding of clover scorch disease in Western Australia. An economic control has yet to be developed but it appears that management can be adjusted to reduce damage to pastures and there is scope for using resistant species and less susceptible cultivars to escape the disease.     Input for Hybrid Simulation Modelling Construction Operations

    Good pre-construction planning efforts are a vital part of the effective management and delivery of construction projects. In order to prepare more accurate schedules and cost calculations, realistic productivity rates to improve precision are needed. The use of simulation for modelling the elements of construction processes can assist with this aspiration. The application of hybrid simulation approaches is particularly appropriate as they can capture complicated behaviour, uncertainties, and dependencies. This paper discusses the use of one such approach combining discrete-event simulation (DES) and system dynamics (SD) to determine more accurate productivity rates. The DES component models the operations with the workflow of the tasks performed. Its input consists of the task elements with their durations and resource information. The factors that influence the productivity rates are taken into account with the help of the SD component. Input for this part of the model includes the factors as well as considerations of their interrelationships and effects. In this work, a case study of such input data for masonry works – for brick- and blockwork – is presented. It shows the input data and its integration in the DES-SD approach for modellers to determine more realistic productivity rates

    Considerable progress has been made with the clover scorch problem since the devastation of the 971 epidemic when intensive research began. Over 2000 varieties and crossbreds of subterranean clover from various collections have been screened for resistance resulting in the release of the first resistant clover, Esperance, this year. Benefits of fungicidal spraying have been demonstrated and low cost spraying programmes for grazed pastures, and seed and hay crops are under field investigation

    Preliminary results on KUV 02464+3239, a pulsating DA white dwarf are presented. Located near the red edge of the DAV instability strip, KUV 02464+3239 shows large amplitude and long period pulsation modes. Up to now only one mode was known from a 50-minute-long light curve. Our more extended observations allowed the identification of three additional frequencies. The presence of previously known harmonics were confirmed and weak subharmonics are also noticeable at some parts of the light curve.     The impact of suspension control on the controllability of the lateral vehicle dynamics

    International audienceSince there is a coupling between lateral and vertical dynamics, the interactions between control components must be taken into consideration. The paper presents the effects of vertical load variations on the controlled invariant set of the steering system. In the model the nonlinear characteristics of the tire force are approximated by the polynomial form. The analysis is based on Sum-of-Squares programming method and parameter-dependent polynomial control Lyapunov functions. The Maximum Controlled Invariant Sets of the steering as a function of vertical loads are illustrated through a simulation example. The results of the analysis are built into the control design of the suspension system. A semi-active suspension system using preview control is applied. The operation of the controller is illustrated through simulation examples

    INTRODUCTION: In the course of anastomotic insufficiency following resection of esophageal cancers the bacterial compound of the esophageal substance has a remarkable, presumable role in the outcome of complications. AIM: The purpose of this study is to compare the consequences of the anastomotic leak with the bacterial flora of patients' oral cavity. METHOD: In this prospective study a total of 131 patients were investigated directly before the surgical intervention taking a bacterial sample. Bacterial flora of patients' oral cavity was analysed; and the correlation between the consequences of the anastomotic leak and the content of the bacterial flora was examined. RESULTS: Pathogenic bacteria in the oral microflora in 50 cases (38.2%) was found. Statistically significant, moderate correlation was found between the severity of the complication and the incidence of pathogenic bacteria (rs = 0.553; p</=0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Pathogenic agent in the microbial flora might induce higher risk and more severe outcome in case of anastomotic leakage and it might be evaluated as a determinative factor. Consideration of the bacterial flora of the oral cavity requires more attention in the preoperative preparation than before and it demands the change of the current practice. Orv.     EFFECT OF INBREEDING ON LOIN AND FAT DEPTH IN HUNGARIAN LANDRACE PIGS

    Pedigree and field test data - collected between 1997-2005 - were analyzed in a group of 68062 Hungarian Landrace pigs. The analysed traits were loin depth (LD), fat depth1 (FD1) and fat depth2 (FD2). In the present study inbreeding coefficients, pedigree completeness (complete generation equivalents) and inbreeding depression for LD, FD1 and FD2 were estimated. Increasing number of generations that were considered in the pedigree the estimated inbreeding coefficients did not change after the 5th generation, but pedigree completeness was continuously increasing. The estimated inbreeding depression for LD, FD1 and FD2 were different applying 5 different models but the magnitude of the differences was small. Increasing inbreeding coefficient by 10% caused LD decrease by 0.084 mm, the FD1 by 0.062 mm and did not affect FD2. It can be concluded that the estimated inbreeding depression was low and substantial depression can not be expected in the near future. However, the low level of inbreeding of the studied population can partly be explained by the short pedigrees. This suggests that Hungarian pig breeders may often import breeding animals or carry out herd replacements rather than apply within group selection
